Volunteer training is offered six times a year and consists of 30 hours classroom presentations, 6 hours of court room observation, a one-hour post-training interview and attendance at the Mock Trial and Swearing in Ceremony. The training program is structured to cover the following topics:
- Court process and the law presented by judges and attorneys
- Department of Social Services role and child abuse reporting presented by D.S.S. personnel
- Child abuse, child sexual abuse and child neglect presented by experts in the field
- Permanency planning and advocating for permanency
- Alcohol and drug abuse presented by substance abuse counselors and individuals in recovery
- Interviewing and report writing
- Cultural sensitivity
- Role and responsibilities of CASA Volunteers
