How To Help CASA


Training Sessions

Volunteer training is offered six times a year and consists of 30 hours classroom presentations, 6 hours of court room observation, a one-hour post-training interview and attendance at the Mock Trial and Swearing in Ceremony. The training program is structured to cover the following topics:

  • Court process and the law presented by judges and attorneys
  • Department of Social Services role and child abuse reporting presented by D.S.S. personnel
  • Child abuse, child sexual abuse and child neglect presented by experts in the field
  • Permanency planning and advocating for permanency
  • Alcohol and drug abuse presented by substance abuse counselors and individuals in recovery
  • Interviewing and report writing
  • Cultural sensitivity
  • Role and responsibilities of CASA Volunteers
