Name

Kathy Carty

How long have you been a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate)?

A little over 8 years

What inspired you to become a CASA volunteer?

I have always wanted to work with children and when I learned about CASA Project Worcester County, I thought it was the perfect way to be involved in helping children at an uncertain and difficult time in their lives.

What do you want our supporters to know about your background?

I have been a Registered Nurse (RN) for 26 years, mostly working in critical care. For the last 15 years, I have worked as an RN/Transplant Coordinator. I currently work as an Advanced Clinical Donation Specialist for New Jersey Sharing Network. I am a strong advocate for organ donation and for education surrounding it.

I am immensely proud to have been able to share CASA’s mission, community impact, and the importance of the Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteer role in helping children with my family and friends, in addition to being able to share the importance in organ donation.

What are your interests and favorite hobbies?

I love reading and creating different types of crafts. I also enjoy spending time with my family.

Is there anything else you would like to share with our community?

I have enjoyed my time being a volunteer advocate and working with everyone at CASA. On one of my current cases, I am advocating for a teenager who is navigating the child welfare and juvenile court system. It has been uniquely challenging as well as very rewarding to know that I am able to amplify her voice and her needs for safety, education, and mental health.
