Name
Rosaleigh (Rosie) Blackmer
How long have you been a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate)?
2 years!
What inspired you to become a CASA volunteer?
I was inspired to be a volunteer advocate because of my students. As a public school teacher, I’ve worked with many students and families involved with the Department of Children and Families (DCF) and the juvenile court system. I wanted to educate myself about this system and provide support as community members navigate these complex spaces.
What do you want our supporters to know about your background?
I am a proud teacher and union representative! I’m proud of the work my union is doing to support immigrant students and families. This population has been significantly impacted by changing policies in our country, and we are advocating that all students have access to a safe learning environment.
What are your interests and favorite hobbies?
I love cooking, reading, farming, and skiing! For anyone interested in getting involved, Unified Skiing can always use more volunteers!
Is there anything else you would like to share with our community?
It has been an honor to build connections and trust with children and families through CASA. As a volunteer advocate, we have the chance to offer support to people and a system that is overwhelmed. In order to build a more just and equitable world, we need to put in the hours and the work.
