Name

Shelley Rodman

How long have you been a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate)?

Almost 10 years.

What inspired you to become a CASA volunteer?

My friend, Ginger Navickas, was a CASA and encouraged me to take the training. Ginger was an excellent advocate for the mission—as well as an excellent CASA volunteer. I was also a friend of Judge Martha Grace, former Chief Justice of the Massachusetts Juvenile Court, and Martha was a strong believer in CASA.

What do you want our supporters to know about your background?

After a full career in fundraising (for higher education and for environmental organizations), I am now a ‘professional’ volunteer working as a volunteer advocate with CASA, as a docent for the Worcester Art Museum, and as a Board member of both the Planned Parenthood Action Fund and the League of Women Voters of the Worcester Area.

What are your interests and favorite hobbies?

Traveling, spending time with friends, reading fiction, and enjoying family (especially my two delightful grandchildren).

Is there anything else you would like to share with our community?

Being a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) has been a great learning experience. I am so grateful for the many dedicated social workers, school adjustment counselors, daycare providers, therapists, judges, and biological, foster, and pre-adoptive parents who work hard to provide children with the care and the lives they deserve. I am also grateful for my fellow CASAs and all of the support CASA provides. It is a privilege to be on the team of volunteer advocates.
