Take the first step to becoming a CASA advocate:

Sue GreenSusan Green

How long have you been an Advocate?   1 1/2 years

What brought you to CASA?  I worked with several non-profits serving children as a program evaluator (helping to measure outcomes).  I became interested in direct service and getting to know the children, biological and foster parents and the wide network of providers and DCF who support them.

What keeps you at CASA?  It is funny, I have worked with children of different ages whom I adore. But what keeps me at CASA is my relationships with the biological and foster parents.  They are working through such a difficult and profound change. I like to be able to support them as much as I can while keeping the needs of the children at the center of my concerns.

What CASA experience stands out the most?  Recently, I have been a CASA for a preteen girl who desperately misses her mother.  She lacks self-confidence but is aware of and interested in the people who come in and out of her life to support her in foster care.  The fact that she recognizes my role is to support her exclusively, has allowed her to trust me.  I feel like I was able to get through to her and tell her how unique and smart she is. It is incredibly gratifying.

Three words to describe yourself:  Energetic, Kind, Social

Favorite vacation destination: That is hard, I love to travel.  I love hiking.  I have hiked in the Alps, Pyrennes, Nepal and mostly in New Hampshire.  This summer we will hike in Scotland.

What are you reading or watching right now:  I am addicted to Game of Thrones.
